Community Involvement 2017-09-30T03:05:43+00:00

At IHS Building Corporation we believe in taking care of and helping those in our community. We regularly partner with other businesses, organizations and individuals who are involved in worthwhile causes. We also reach out and provide assistance to individuals or families who find themselves in need of a helping hand. Through the years, IHS Building Corporation’s owner and employees have been extremely blessed to be able to give of our time, money and construction expertise to community organizations and families.

We moved to a new location and needed a room to hold meetings. IHS was able to frame new walls, drywall, add a drop ceiling, new lighting and carpet. The Lighthouse uses the room on a weekly to monthly basis to hold community meetings.
Gitchee Gumee Bible Camp is a youth and family camp located in Copper Harbor. Through out the summer the camp is filled with people of all ages. In the spring the camp holds a two week “work bee” to prepare the camp for the upcoming camping season. One of the cabins was in desperate need of a new roof. In 2007, IHS was able to send six guys to remove all the old shingles and install new shingles. The following year IHS supplied the camp with over 60 brand new low-flush toilets. The new toilets save the camp hundreds of gallons of water per year. In 2009 IHS went to the camp and repaired two chimneys that were deteriorating.
Families within our community have had many different needs but not the ability or financial resources to fulfill those needs. IHS has been able to work with several local families and help meet their needs.
Agape Café is a ministry that truly reaches community wide. They serve 10 meals a week including breakfast 7 days a week. They have volunteers from 9 area churches, serving more than 200 individual meals every week. More than just a café, Agape Café is a meeting place. Guests come for a hot meal, an inexpensive haircut, or a place to sleep for the night. Recently the Agape Café wanted to add a bathroom with a shower so guests could clean up for the new day ahead. IHS B.C. was able to create a brand new bathroom with shower, sink and toilet. This new bathroom has given people a renewed sense of hope and confidence as they begin their new day.
Habitat for Humanity was founded in 1976 by Millard Fuller as a non profit ecumenical Christian housing ministry. Habitat relies on volunteers and donations of money and materials to build homes for people in need. IHS Building Company partnered with Marquette’s Home Builders Association for their “Build a House in a Day”. In the morning there was a concrete slab, by lunch the walls and roof were on and by the end of the day the house was completely dried in and ready for interior finishes.
